Sauble Beach has been a part of my family’s story for generations. It all began when my grandmother was in the hospital giving birth to my aunt. The mother in the next bed told my grandparents about the beauty of Sauble Beach. Intrigued, my grandparents and great-grandparents went to Sauble Beach and rented cottages, there, in 1953 and 1954. By 1955, my great-grandparents loved it so much that they bought a cottage of their own. That cottage stayed in our family until 1978. My great-grandmother told my mother that selling her cottage was more painful than parting with the house where she raised her kids.
After my great-grandmother passed away, the cottage miraculously went up for sale. Pooling together the inheritance they received, my aunts and uncles were able to buy the cottage back.
Sauble has always been a part of my life, too. I’ve been going there since I was born. I took my high school sweetheart to Sauble and when she became my wife, we wrapped up our honeymoon at Sauble Beach.
I have kids of my own, now, and they have been going to Sauble Beach since they were born. It’s a family tradition that continues to grow.
What makes Sauble so special? It’s more than just the beach, though we love lounging in the sun and swimming in the lake. It’s walking the main drag, riding bikes, making bonfires and s’mores, watching the sunset, building sandcastles, riding on personal watercraft, hiking, shopping – and just enjoying every moment of what Sauble has to offer.
Sauble Beach is my happy place, and no matter where I go, it’s the one place that feels like home. We want to share that magic with you.
